Gemotions

"Just another day," muttered Thomas as he slumped into a chair at the coffee shop. The chipped mug felt heavy in his hands, reflecting the weight on his soul. The endless grind, the constant pressure – it had all taken its toll. He’d grabbed the book on his way out of the library, a random selection.

Inside, tucked between the pages of a dog-eared history book, was a pressed flower and a slip of paper. He picked it up gingerly, almost afraid to touch it.

"For better or worse, always remember the scent of rain on the earth." The handwriting was delicate, almost hesitant. He closed his eyes, picturing the scene in his mind. A slow, deep breath filled his lungs. Maybe there was still beauty to be found.
